Trans Love

copper, enamel, patina 4.5 x 3.5 x 0.25 in 2019

This piece was an exploration of screenprinting enamel. In my last semester at Edinboro, I learned enameling and screenprinting, and I was interested in combining the two to get a specific illustrative quality.

I took a lot of experimentation to get the image I wanted from the powdered enamel. Although I enjoy the grainy quality of the lines, I am doing further research into getting crisp, solid lines.

The image is of me and my partner. I wanted to illustrate intimacy in a trans/ queer relationship. The representation of transgender love, bodies, and relationships is important to me. I believe jewelry has the ability to confront and expose viewers in a unique way. Greater acceptance will come from greater exposure and understanding.
